Creative Folkestone & Folkestone Artworks

A trip to the UK’s largest outdoor exhibition of contemporary art, with inspiring artworks created by some of the world’s most acclaimed living artists, will leave you spoilt for choice with spectacular content to liven up your Instagram feed.

Folkestone Artworks is free and accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and gives visitors the chance to discover 46 artists’ work in scenic and surprising locations across the creative seaside town of Folkestone.

This impressive exhibition includes works from Tracey Emin, Antony Gormley, Mark Wallinger, Cornelia Parker, Richard Woods, Lubaina Himid and Yoko Ono, and offers an experience like nowhere else in the world. Great contemporary art that invites people to explore, examine and understand the town’s geography, history and potential future.

Visit https://www.creativefolkestone.org.uk/folkestoneartworks/maps-and-routes/ where you’ll be able to download a map and start exploring. Alternatively walk into The Clearing at Quarterhouse for more information about the exhibition and to pick up a map. Quarterhouse showcases the best in contemporary performance, theatre, dance and music - perfect for an evening’s entertainment.

Continue your cultural adventure with a meander through the heart of Folkestone’s cultural scene – the Old Town’s Creative Quarter. Here historic buildings have been transformed into new spaces with independent shops, cafes, art businesses and galleries. Meet artists as they make their work, hear about their practice and be inspired by the works on display.

In 2020, Folkestone Triennial returns to transform the town into an art gallery with new works by contemporary artists –a definite date for the diary! Folkestone Artworks were originally commissioned by Creative Folkestone as part of Folkestone Triennial.

In 2020...

As part of The Waterfronts series Creative Folkestone are creating a new artwork with Chilean artist Pilar Quinteros @lapilarquinteros, who works across drawing, video and sculpture, often using inexpensive materials. Her practice explores how one is affected by the context of a place and shaped by its norms, often through interventions in public places. In Folkestone she will test her practice to create a new multi-faceted work.
