The Beaney House of Art and Knowledge
The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge is an Art Gallery, Library and Visitor Information Centre situated in the heart of historic Canterbury.
The building offers a mix of historic collections and architecture with modern facilities.
The museum is a cultural hub, housing an internationally significant collection that retells Canterbury’s rich heritage through the ages. The collection is made up of intriguing objects spanning across a range of subjects such as Ancient Egypt, Anglo-Saxons, Sculpture, Fine and Decorative Art.
Admission is free of charge and includes 9 Galleries, The Beaney Café, Canterbury’s Visitor Information Centre and Library. This award winning facility provides state-of-the-art exhibition galleries, excellent educational facilities and a varied programme of events for all ages.
Visitors can take advantage of a range of free kids activities, from dressing up to our Explorer Points. Our creative family activities are also available to purchase, designed as a part of our award-winning Learning Programme.
The museum has 2 dedicated temporary exhibition spaces to house innovative displays that reflect contemporary issues relevant to the local community.
We offer pre-booked highlights tours for groups of up to 30 people (min 8 people). The cost is £6 per person. The tour, lasting approx 45 mins, gives a fascinating insight into the stories behind The Beaney building and its diverse collections. Tours must be booked at least 2 weeks in advance and are subject to availability.
