Chichester Cathedral
Entry is free and the Cathedral is open every day all year round. Free guided tours run at 11.15am and 2.30pm from Monday to Saturday – tours last about an hour and there’s no need to book. There are a number of special trails for children of all ages to help them learn and have fun while exploring this wonderful building.
The Cathedral is a fascinating combination of both ancient and modern, where original medieval features sit alongside world famous contemporary artworks. It is renowned for its art, which includes paintings, tapestries, sculptures and stained glass. Contemporary works by acclaimed artists such as John Piper, Graham Sutherland, Marc Chagall and Philip Jackson, complement paintings and carvings from every century since the Cathedral’s foundation.
The Cloisters Café offers delicious homemade food from breakfast to afternoon tea, light snacks and indulgent lunches, as well as a tasty selection of affordable children’s meals. There is also a terrace and walled garden. In the Shop there’s an opportunity to buy distinctive Cathedral souvenirs, unique jewellery created by local designers, Fairtrade gifts, traditional toys and sacred music. There is also a wide selection of books ranging from local interest titles to spirituality.
Bed and breakfast accommodation can also be booked at 4 Canon Lane, an eight bedroom beautifully restored former Archdeaconry situated in the historic Cathedral Close.
