Farmyard Restaurant & Wine Bar
Farmyard is a restaurant and wine bar serving local, ethical and sustainable food alongside natural and biodynamic wines.
The menu is based around the best quality produce that East Sussex and the surrounding area has to offer. This includes fresh fish straight off the boats in Hastings Old Town - the largest beach-launched fishing fleet in Europe - as well as Salt Marsh lamb from Pevensey and top quality beef from Bexhill.
Central to the restaurant’s focus on sustainability is the decision to serve several dishes made from offal and lesser-used cuts of meat. These include lamb’s tongues, chicken hearts, bone marrow soldiers and a liver terrine as well as skirt steak in the place of the more common fillet. A sizeable selection of plant-based dishes changes regularly, but may include slow-roast beetroot, a spiced squash tagine and jackfruit brandade.
Platters showcase the best of local artisan produce, including charcuterie from near Lewes, cheeses from across Sussex and homemade chutneys and dips, while some stand-out ingredients are unashamedly brought in from across the Channel - such as the Manchego and chorizo which sit with local cured meats and cheeses on the popular and politically charged “For the remainers” platter.
Farmyard’s comprehensive low-intervention wine list of over 100 bottles spans classics from Bordeaux, Burgundy and Loire alongside wild and funky offerings from across Europe and beyond, plus a large range of locally produced wines from down the road in Sussex and Kent.
Farmyard is open seven days a week, in the evening on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and from midday onwards for lunch, dinner, drinks, snacks and dinners on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On Sunday it offers Sunday roasts from midday to 6pm.
