The charming Salutation Hotel and restaurant are spread across the main house and its three surrounding cottages. The mod cons are all here now, of course, but the character and quirkiness of a Grade I listed building shine through at every turn. Each room is individually styled & home to original art & antique furniture.
With a wealth of dining options, there is something for everyone at every time of the day. Our Michelin-awarded Head Chef Shane Hughes has created a series of menus based on local, seasonal ingredients. Whether it is residents’ breakfast, our laid-back lunch menu, Afternoon Tea on the terrace, a la carte dining or our Tasting Room menu, we are cult-like in our obsession with local sourcing, in-house production & sky-high standards.
The Salutation Gardens are a plant-lover’s paradise & an RHS Partner Garden. Designed by Lutyens, the 3.7 acres are divided into a series of symmetrical “rooms”, each with a different purpose, gathered around a unifying theme. The effect is one of endlessly unfolding space – from the lush & towering exotic beds found in our Jungle Garden to the elegant corridor of Holm Oaks – there are wonderful surprises around each corner. Steve Edney, our award-winning Head Gardener’s planting style is a dynamic combination of old & new. His experimentation & creativity ensure that the gardens are recognised as amongst the finest in the country. Our grounds are open all year round, ready to share our take on the perfect English garden.
This Summer The Salutation will be launching the Pelagian Opera Festival, in collaboration with The Royal Conservertoire Den Haag. Guests will enjoy cabaret opera dinners or informal operatic picnics in & inspired by our beautiful gardens.
